Zine designed in InDesign, printed on glossy paper and made into a video.
This is a zine of photography from a Garba event I attended with my family and friends. Garba is an Indian dance festival that honors the Goddess Durga. Traditionally, people dance in a circle while singing and clapping. We all danced together in rhythmic motions and simultaneously moved together in many concentric circles.
I took some of the pictures from the outside of the circles, from the perspective of an observer. I took other pictures from the circles itself, while I danced, from the perspective of a dancer in the circles. The pictures show my family and friends all dancing together.
I mimicked the rhythm and motions of the dance by sporadically placing the pictures on the pages. While the pictures on each page have a certain rhythm, they also differ on each page and have a unique style and “beat”.
