Designs are hung on hangers to show how a person may choose their emotions like choosing an outfit

The fabric of the human psyche is shown through various emotions stitched together imperfectly

I started with these pointillist portraits of people showing various emotions. these portraits were printed on canvas as I knew I wanted to stitch parts of them together. I wanted to represent the "stitching" of a human's emotions and put together the different emotions to show people's personalities which consist of a variety of emotions.

I stitched together the faces and they were mismatched to show the tension and nonconformity of people's emotions. The faces don't fit together perfectly and almost compete with each other as our emotions can be imperfect and unexpected.

How do I show that these emotions are a mask that people wear?
I wanted to show the idea that someone "chooses" the mask of emotions they are going to feel that day as if they are choosing an outfit in the morning. I decided to put the pieces on hangers and hang them in a closet to represent this concept. I painted the hangers black to fade into the background.
